Amana is an American company that manufactures and sells domestic appliances. Based in Michigan, Amana makes dishwashers, ovens, refrigerators, washing machines, and many other household electronics. Goerge Foerstner founded Amana as The Electrical Equipment Co. in 1934. The company got into business to sell walk-in coolers before manufacturing freezers in the 1940s. Amana is credited for introducing the first side-by-side refrigerator in 1949. The company was rebranded to Amana Refrigeration after it was bought in 1950. It began making air conditioners in 1954, acquiring a patent for the first self-defrost refrigerator. Amana opened doors to a new frontier in 1957 when it created the first bottom-freezer refrigerator. Over the next few years, Amana released several inventions, including the first consumer microwave, the Radarange, in 1967. It also released a 24-inch-deep freestanding refrigerator in 1988 and the first clothes dryer with a stainless steel drum in 1992. Heating and air-conditioning manufacturer Goodman Global bought Amana in 1997. Five years later, Maytag purchased Amana, a subsidiary of Whirlpool. This acquisition left Goodman in control of Amana’s air conditioning and furnace while leaving Whirlpool, the owner of the home appliances division. In 2006, Amana was the first to include antimicrobial protection in top load washers. The company developed a new logo and tagline for its brand in 2016. That same year, Amana began manufacturing and operating from a new $400 million facility on 4.2 million square feet of land in Houston, Texas.

With such a rich history, it’s no wonder the company has so many products out there, from new to used. Finding the right documentation can be difficult, especially in the English language. This is the reason why we opened up a section dedicated to Amana User Manuals, where you can view or download each PDF.
