Known for manufacturing a variety of electronic products, Casio is a Japanese multinational corporation with headquarters in Shibuya and Tokyo Japan. Their products range from calculators, digital and analog watches, electronic musical instruments and other types of electronic products. Founded by the Kashio family in 1946, Casio was established and formerly known as Kashio Seisakujo. The company’s first product was a yubiwa pipe, meant to hold a cigarette while allowing the user’s hands to be free. With the profits they earned from their first product, they started to develop calculators. And in 1954, the first electro-mechanical calculator was invented. The company renamed as Casio Computer Co. Ltd. in 1957, and in the same year, launched the first all-electric compact calculator. Casio continued to expand globally and dominated the US electronic-calculator market. Aside from this, pocket computers, digital diary systems and timepieces were among the wide range of products the company offered. They started to venture into developing other products as market demand for timepieces started to decline. Casio started to produce affordable electronic pianos and introduced it to the US in 1980 along with products such as LCD TVs, TV/VCR combination units and POS systems.  During the 90s, the company acquired Asahi Corporation in an attempt to further diversify their range of products. Through this, they developed a “personal digital assistant” (PDA) which had the ability to interface with traditional computers and send e-mails. Aside from this, development of pagers, home video phones and even a low-cost digital camera in 1995. Today, the company continues to innovate and develop high-tech electronics that are affordable and light for every consumer. Casio is publicly traded in Tokyo, Osaka, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
