Lantech is an American manufacturer of shipment packaging. The company builds tray and case handling machines and stretch wrappers for companies that package products for shipment. The family-owned business is recognized for originating stretch wrapping technology. Stretch wrapping is the use of stretch film to wrap items. The items may be wrapped for shipping, storage, or protection against dust, moisture and weather elements. Lantech was founded in 1972 with the invention of the first stretch wrapping machine by Pat Lancaster. Before stretch wrapping, product packages were shipped in pallets held together with steel bands. The new method of protecting shipment boxes was successful in reducing freight damage. It wasn’t long before Lantech improved its method by pre-stretching the film. This reduced the amount of film used for wrapping products, saving some production plants thousands of dollars in film costs. At the center of Lantech’s growth is innovative research and development. In its 50 years of existence, the company has gathered more than 100 patents. In 2001, Lantech expanded into Europe with the acquisition of the Rembrandt Company. At the time, Rembrandt was already successful for manufacturing case equipment in Europe. As the two companies came together, Lantech not only improved its overall manufacturing processes but also spread its influence to European markets. In 2018, Lantech Europe decided to ramp up its capacity by opening up a new facility in Malden, Eastern Holland. The new headquarters brought a higher level of green and lean production for the company while bringing together all departments under the same roof.
