LiftMaster is a global corporation headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, with manufacturing facilities in Nogales, Mexico, North Ryde, Australia, and Saarwellingen, Germany. Under the guidance of Chamberlain, Merline, and Grifco, the company designs and engineers residential garage door openers, commercial door operators, and gate entry systems. Chamberlain, LiftMaster, and Craftsman companies operate under one umbrella with interchangeable parts, primarily the gear and circuit boards. However, LiftMaster consists of one single solid piece of rail while the others use a split rail system. LiftMaster dominated the remote-controlled garage door openers market in the 1990s based on the government directive for companies to advance sensors to minimize accidents that resulted from earlier designs. At that time, the organization was the only company in the US that could offer advanced technology for automated garage doors. The resell of the company by Sears Roebuck and Co. allowed the expansion of its door opener market under the Craftsman label. The company’s success was enhanced with the manufacture of the garage door opener that involved mounting an IR emitter a few inches above the ground on either side of the door’s frame. If the beam were interrupted at any given moment while the door was closing, the door opener would stop and reverse. This concept was superior to past methodologies because it ensured safety, a key selling point for garage door openers. The unveiling of a garage door opener with an electric eye in 1993 was regarded as the first genuinely safe remote-controlled garage door opener, making it the best selling at that time.

With such a rich history, it’s no wonder the company has so many products out there, from new to used. Finding the right documentation can be difficult, especially in the English language. This is the reason why we opened up a section dedicated to Liftmaster User Manuals, where you can view or download each PDF.
