Maytag is a home equipment manufacturer owned by Whirlpool. It was founded in 1893 by American businessman Frederick Maytag, his two brothers-in-law, and George Parsons. It started by selling band-cutters, threshing machines, and various farm equipment. The company immediately got its breakthrough when it invented a threshing machine feeder that could feed straw with minimal injuries to the farmer. During the early 1900’s Maytag focused mainly on producing home washers within America. Maytag entered the commercial laundry market in 1950 at a time when it was expanding across America. It began by manufacturing and supplying commercial washers and dryers with little competition then. In 1966, the company launched its first portable dishwasher and opened the first Maytag Home appliance center the same year. The company acquired Hardwick Stove Company in 1981. Maytag released its first stacked washer and dryer in 1985. The following year it was renamed The Maytag Corporation. It expanded its line of appliances after acquiring Magic Chef and Norge Appliance Company. Maytag made another acquisition of the Chicago Pacific Corporation in 1989. Maytag started manufacturing dishwashers in 1992 and, throughout the 1990s, continued to add new products to its line. The company made its last acquisition in 2001 when it bought Amana, then rebranded and sold the subsidiary’s products as its own. After losing $9 million in 2004 – owing to several consumer complaints about quality – Maytag agreed to be purchased by Whirlpool in 2005. The acquisition was finalized in 2006.

With such a rich history, it’s no wonder the company has so many products out there, from new to used. Finding the right documentation can be difficult, especially in the English language. This is the reason why we opened up a section dedicated to MayTag User Manuals, where you can view or download each PDF.
