Headquartered in Stockholm, Electrolux AB is a Swedish multinational company recognized as one of the largest home appliance manufacturers in more than 150 countries. From refrigerators to washing machines, ovens, dishwashers and what started it all for the company—vacuum cleaners. Originating from a merger of two companies in 1919, namely: a subsidiary of Svenska Elektron AB (first merged with Lux AB in 1918, an established vacuum manufacturer) and Elektromekaniska AB; the company initially sold Lux-branded vacuums in several European countries. By 1925, the company started to diversify their products and added absorption refrigerators to its product line. Soon thereafter, they started to venture into making other home appliances: washing machines in 1951, dishwashers in 1959 and food service equipment in 1962. The company later changed their brand name from Elektrolux to Electrolux in 1957. The company also regularly expanded through major mergers and acquisitions in the late 60s to 80s. ElektroHelios, Norwegian Elektra, Danish Atlas, Finnish Slev, and Flymo, et al., to name a few between 1960 to 1969. Hans Werthén, President and later chairman of the company, led the company through its decentralized state and was significant to its rapid development. Restructuring and the centralization of Electrolux also continued through the 90s. In 2000, further expansion of the company also led them to buy the rights to the Electrolux brand in North America. Electrolux is also a publicly traded company that an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange in 1928 (delisted in 2010) and on the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 1930. Electrolux currently has its share trades available over the counter and on the NASDAQ OMX Nordic Market. The company is also an OMX Nordic 40 constituent stock.
