Gigabyte Technology is a Taiwanese manufacturer and distributor of personal computers and hardware like motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, servers and peripherals. Other offerings include desktop computers, tablet computers, mobile phones, server motherboards, personal digital assistants, server racks, optical drivers, mice, keyboards, networking equipment, cases, cooling components, and power supplies. In 2021, the company built motherboards for both AMD and Intel platforms. Additionally, it develops graphics cards and notebooks by partnering with AMD and Nvidia. The company was founded in 1986 by Pei-Cheng Yeh to manufacture motherboards with durable construction and solid capacitors. In 1989 it developed 8MB EMS cards recognized for their robust R&D capabilities. This innovation launched the firm into global success, allowing it to expand overseas in the United States, Germany, and Japan. This move enabled the company to initiate Nanping production lines in Taoyuan with the latest automated equipment. In 2006, Gigabyte unveiled a joint venture with Asus and went on to develop the world’s first software-controlled power supply in 2007. This innovation launched the company to further global success allowing it to diversify its portfolio. In 2010, it showcased a ground-breaking method to charge iPad and iPhone on a computer and introduced the first Z68 motherboard with an onboard mSATA connection for Intel SSD and Smart Response Technology. In 2021, Gigabyte announced its partnership with Intel to release the Alchemist GPU. The agreement would allow the company to offer custom coolers and varying clocking speeds. The organization was first listed on the Taiwanese Stock Exchange in 1998 and trades with the stock ID number TWSE: 2376.
