Motorola is one of the pioneer companies that made significant contributions to electronic communications. It’s famed for its manufactured cellular phones, two-way radios, pagers, and other communications products and systems. Paul Galvin founded Motorola and called it the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in 1928. The company’s first product was a battery eliminator, a device that replaces the need for batteries for portable appliances with electric power. By 1930, the Chicago-founded company sold inexpensive car radios called Motorola, a play between “motor” and “victrola.” The company continued its research on radios, even forming a police radio department. Because of the war, Galvin redirected research efforts to help the military, eventually creating the Walkie-Talkie. The company officially changed its name to Motorola, Inc. in 1947. Its first compact and less expensive television, Golden View, was unveiled that same year. Motorola expanded in other industries, such as transistors, to improve its electronic products. The company even released a microprocessor, the MC680x0 series, in 1974 used in early computers. Motorola developed a new telecommunication system in 1977 with a wireless handheld telephone. It then released the MicroTAC flip cellular phone in 1989 as a personal communications device. With the success of the cellular phone, Motorola was motivated to develop Iridium – a system to interconnect the globe wirelessly. However, it was costly enough that the company started to sell some of its subsidiaries. Motorola’s original ticker “MOT” is now nonexistent, replaced instead by Motorola Mobility “MMI,” and Motorola Solutions “MSI,” which reflects the company’s split in 2011. Because of continued losses, Google bought Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in 2012. Google then sold Motorola Mobility in 2014 to the Chinese computer company Lenovo.

With such a rich history, it’s no wonder the company has so many products out there, from new to used. Finding the right documentation can be difficult, especially in the English language. This is the reason why we opened up a section dedicated to Motorola User Manuals, where you can view or download each PDF.
