Technicolor SA is an American-French multinational corporation that specializes in the creative industries. You might be familiar with the brand’s colorful logo. Its origins could be traced back to 1892, with the founding of the General Electric Company (GE). GE would eventually establish a sister company in the US, the Compagnie Française Thomson-Houston (CFTH), which later became the Thomson Group. It supplied generation and propulsion equipment for the first electric streetcar in Massachusetts in its first decades. Meanwhile, Hotchkiss-Brandt was another firm established in 1924 that first manufactured French arms. By the turn of the 20th century, it switched to automobiles. In 1966, CFTH and Hotchkiss-Brandt merged, later becoming the Thomson- Brandt SA on 1972. Thomson-Brandt was a technologically competent but conservative electronics firm. It invented the videodisc system in the same year of its rebranding but didn’t utilize its commercial potential. Instead, it only sold the videodisc system as an audio-visual tool in military training. In 1987, the company sold its medical equipment unit and bought GE’s consumer electronics division. This purchase initiated the brand’s consumer media products, broadcast entertainment industries, and professional media production. After a year, Thomson Consumer Electronics was formed. Thomson was an innovator of the thin television screen. In the early 21st century, its Technicolor division became the world’s largest manufacturer of disc-based media products, like DVDs and CDs. The company also led the DVD player, video equipment, and television market. The company rebranded and changed its name to Technicolor in 2010. Throughout the 2010s, Technicolor acquired many creative studios, including the English visual effects advertising leader, The Mill, in 2015. The acquisition further improved Technicolor’s market position and profitability. The brand trades with the ticker symbol TCH on the pan-European stock market Euronext.

With such a rich history, it’s no wonder the company has so many products out there, from new to used. Finding the right documentation can be difficult, especially in the English language. This is the reason why we opened up a section dedicated to Technicolor User Manuals, where you can view or download each PDF.
